ESET MMSR history – 2013

These three words can easily characterize the ESET MMSR series. It is a championship for touring cars and single-seaters that has started its journey back in 2013. The main idea of the series is to offer a high-quality championship in Central Europe. ESET MMSR comes with a professional organisation, low costs for teams and a wide media coverage. It also helps to raise young drivers and to raise awareness about racing in the region.

“I’m glad for everything that is going to help racing in any way. Every TV report or any kind of media involvement helps us to get more attention for our sport. And that is going to bring more teams and more drivers,” said a team manager of Šenkýř Motorsport Robert Šenkýř.

“It’s a way how to motivate drivers to race. Media will be more interested if there is a strong partner, and that’s going to help racing in Slovakia and in the Czech Republic. And we need that help,” said Julo Konček, one of the most prominent people in the Slovak motorsport ahead of 2013 season, which was open for divisions 2, 3 and 4.

The first ever 2013 ESET MMSR championship was won by Miro Konôpka. A Slovak driver from Bratislava won four out of six races driving for ARC Bratislava team. He used two cars that season – Porsche 997 GT3 and his favourite Saleen S7R. Both of them in Konôpka‘s typical yellow colour. The first season consisted of five events, two of which took place at Formula 1 tracks – Hungaroring and Red Bull Ring. Apart from them, ESET MMSR paid a visit to Poznan, Most, Slovakia and Brno.

“It definitely wasn’t an easy year. We had a great beginning of the season, so we didn’t have to take any unnecessary risks later. But I’ve got to say, I’ve been racing in some international series as well and quality of the whole ESET MMSR grid is better than in most places. And very competitive as well,” said Miro Konôpka, the first ESET MMSR champion.

Petr Mandelík from KT Motorsport won the ESET Small Sprint category for cars up to 2000ccm after beating his teammate Mark Fried and Marek Rzepecki by just four points. ESET Formula category was won by an Austria racing driver Christopher Höher while Petr Trnka dominated the 1000ccm class.
