A dominant victory for Tomáš Pekař at Slovakia Ring. That was the story of the day in the Clio Cup category, after he led from start to finish, adding his 3rd win of the season.
The first row on the grid of the opening round for the Clio Cup series was all in orange. Tomáš Pekař, whose Clio is typically in this colour, set the fastest lap time in qualifying, beating Jonas Karklys from Judesy Racing in another orange car. On the other hand, the second row on the grid featured two Polish drivers – Adam Rzepecki and Pawel Wysmyk.
As the race started, the whole grid was on its way to a challenging first corner. It was a long sprint, but luckily drivers managed to avoid any accidents. However, Pekař still had to keep an eye on ambitious Wysmyk. Rzepecki remained in 3rd place and Karklus dropped to 4th as his start was far from perfect.
The top 4 then followed each other closely around almost a 6-kilometre long Slovakia Ring. But with more laps, the leading group split into two – a leading duo and Rzepecki – Karklys.
It almost looked like nothing surprising was going to happen before the finish line. However, near the very end of the race, Pavel Wysmyk had to retire, allowing Rzepecki and Karklys to join Pekař on the podium. Rzepecki’s brother Tomasz finished in 4th place ahead of Miha Primozic.
