Thomas Fischer won the second Clio Cup race at the Red Bull Ring. The race was affected by the accident of Szabolcs Lantos, who had just taken the lead in the race.
Valter Nežič and Thomas Fischer started from the first row, Libor Horák and Tomáš Pekař from the second and current points leader Tobias Poschik, and Michael Hulm, the winner of yesterday’s race, from the third.
Nežič made a great start and immediately created a few meters lead, but in the fourth turn of the first lap he drove off the track and fell to the end of the field. At the same moment, Michael Hulm took the lead from Libor Horák and seemed to be on his way to second win of the weekend. The local Thomas Fischer moved to third place, while Poschik started badly and soon appeared in pitlane with technical issue.
Fischer was right behind Horak and their fight was closely watched by Richard Meixner in fourth place. Halfway through the race, Fischer moved to second place and started chasing Hulm in first place. Meixner and Lantos were similarly successful and both of them passed Horák.
Lantos soon got ahead of Meixner caught the leading duo. Small contact between Hulm and Fischer was an opportunity for Lantos, who moved into the lead of the race as Fischer passed Hulme. Unfortunately, Lantos did not enjoy the first place for a long time. In the same lap, he made a mistake in the penultimate turn and hit the barrier hard. Safety car went to the track and brough the drivers to the finish flag.
The winner of the race was Thomas Fischer in front of Michael Hulm and Miha Primožič. Richard Meixner finished fourth and Libor Horák fifth. In the Clio V category, Tomáš Pekař won ahead of Henrik Seibel.
