Zénó Kovács is racing with new formula 4 car since Grobnik event and managed to adapt to it quickly. Formula Tatuus T421 in his hands is always favourite for race win, although Kovács is still waiting for victory. But it´s a matter of time.
Kovács from Racing Trevor team moved from karts to big circuits in this season and debuted in Red Bull Ring with older F4 from. He finished third in both races and then changed formula car for the new one. So what´s the difference between two generations?
“The driving experience of the new car is much better for me than that of the old generation car. Fortunately, I managed to adapt to it quickly. Although the fundamental difference between the two cars is that the new generation car is 25 kg heavier, which means a serious disadvantage compared to the old models. Because of this, it is much more difficult for me to keep up with them, a significant part of the extra weight is the halo, which changes the centre of gravity of the car, and for this reason you have to drive in a different style than the old car,” says Kovács.
The place of his debut with Tatuus T421 was dangerous Grobnik. Drivers can pay high price for any mistakes, as the barriers are very close to the track. But Kovács managed the weekend very well: “Grobnik is a very technical track, full of fast curves, but I tried to exploit the car’s potential within reasonable limits.”
Kovács finished third in Grobnik and took two second places at Slovakia Ring, so he is moving up in the results. “The car has crude mechanic grip in the curves and from race weekend to race weekend I can reach the car´s limits more and more easily,” added Kovács, who thanks to the regular finishing sits in the lead of the Formula standing.
Not only for Kovács is formula 4 new experience, but also for the Racing Trevor team. “My team and I learn the car together, but luckily the team has serious professional knowledge, which greatly facilitates the learning process.”
There is only one event left in this season – Brno. It´s unknown circuit for Kovács, but he is constantly practicing in a simulator. And as the 2022 season is about to finish, what about future plans?
“I want to compete with a GT car at Racing Trevor from 2023. I want to achieve serious results together with my team,” added Kovács
