The Hungarian team Gender Racing is looking forward to new challenge. They bought two formula 4 cars Tatuus T421 and as team owner Tamás Gender says, one car is going to start in ACCR F4 championship.
Gender Racing had a lot of experiences with single seater cars, for example F3, older F4 or formula Renault. Now you added two new cars in your garage – formula 4 Tatuus T421. What is the reason behind this decision?
The Gender Racing Team is Hungary’s best-known formula car team. The team has been a member of the Hungarian and international formula car field for more than ten years, and our drivers have also competed in the ESET Cup from the beginning. The team has always considered it a priority mission, and it is still a frequent aspect for us to support the education of youth in various professional fields related to the sport. This is also why we consider continuous development and innovative solutions important. At the moment, it can be observed that Formula 4 has been given a lot of emphasis in the training of the younger generation, so the team, connected to this point of view, has decided that this year it will make the opportunity for two drivers to race in an international championship in this category. Their identity will be announced soon.
So we won’t know their names yet?
I can tell you that negotiations are ongoing with several drivers, and we are about to sign a contract. For now, let it remain a secret who our fans will be able to see competing in the colours of the Gender Racing Team, but it will be revealed soon.
Do you already own the cars, do you have it in garage? Or is it ongoing buy right know?
I can tell you that we didn’t delay in finding the right cars, and one is currently in the GRT garage. Our experienced specialists are working on preparing the technology for the races, which will also include tests.
Are you expecting any challenges for mechanics or engineers, working on F4 compare to your current cars?
The Gender Racing Team constantly works with professionals who have the highest knowledge and experience in their field. In recent years, we have also worked with foreign and domestic engineers and mechanics with international experience, and in addition to the young, talented racing drivers, we have also supported the education of motorsport specialists, mechanics and engineers who are vitally important in our sport. At GRT, since the team’s foundation, university students of vehicle engineering and graduated engineers have usually worked as members of the team. The challenging operation of formula racing cars during the race weekends can provide very useful professional experiences for their studies or work.
In recent years, we have gained a lot of experience with several types of formula cars and have competed successfully in all categories. Thus, we think that the challenges related to the new Formula 4 racing cars will not be a problem, and we are really looking forward to the races!
And what about your other cars and drivers? What plans do you have for upcoming season?
Now the team is focusing on the Formula 4 category. Our most important task is the installation and adjustment of the new technology and getting the drivers and team members used to it.
And your goals and expectations for 2023 season?
Of course, the Gender Racing Team is also aiming for the top step of the podium. We are working on this, since in accordance with the team’s philosophy, our goal in 2023 is to surpass the previous years in some way. I think optimistically, and even before the season I feel that we will end this year with good results!
What do you think about Oschersleben addition to the ESET Cup calendar?
It will be a little different from the tradition that this year’s racing season will not start on our home track, i.e. not at the Hungaroring, but we like new challenges. In my opinion, a race track that has hosted several prestigious international touring car, GT and formula car championships has a worthy place in the ESET Cup series since its foundation. We are looking forward to the racing season and are happy about the two new race tracks!
