Swiss racing team Sauter Engineering + Design is a new addition to the F4 championship in Central Europe this season. Family team, with Stephan Sauter as mechanic and race engineer for his driving son Michael Sauter, has one primary goal – establish itself at the formula 4 environment
Stephan, why did you decide to join F4 championship in Central Europe?
The F4 Championship in Central Europe is a new challenge for us. We can further develop our two years of experience in F4 on new attractive racetracks.
You have been racing in ADAC F4 for the last two seasons. How do you rate your time there?
Our driver Michael has already proven in the kart driver that he has the talent and skills that a racing driver needs to have. So he was able to control the costs with minimal training kilometres and still be able to compete in big championships like the ADAC F4. Furthermore, the F4 Team Sauter Engineering + Design was able to quickly establish itself thanks to the experience from many automotive industry projects and the support of a very experienced personality. Thanks to this combination and the F4 racing know-how feedback to Sauter Engineering + Design, the entire project is a success for everyone involved.
Michael has shown some great performances in ADAC F4. What is the key now in his further career progress?
Michael was able to improve from race to race and in 2022 he achieved P5 at the Lausitzring and P6 at the Nürburgring. Michael’s further future depends on his achievements and external factors. His goal is later to be able to drive in higher categories.
I noticed there’s a crowdfunding campaign for the 2023 season…
Yes, Michael started this campaign to be able to expand the budget with more training units, we would like to thank our supporters very much. Especially for a later promotion to a higher category, it is not possible to raise the budget without an external sponsor partner.
How much experience does Michael and your team have with F4?
Michael completed his first laps in the Formula 4 car at the beginning of March 2021 in Anneau du Rhin. After several Anneau du Rhin tests and training drives, we drove straight to the first F4 ADAC race in 2021 at the Red Bull Ring.
What do you expect from this season?
We are looking forward to exciting races which this good racing calendar can offer. We also hope to find some of the top drivers from the Italian F4 racing series in the field.
