The opening round of the new ESET Cup season is knocking on the door. The GT car category promises exciting battles not only for individual wins, but of course also for the title, which this year is defended by Libor Milota with his Mercedes. However, he will have strong competition.
Libor Milota of the GT2 Motorsport team has one goal – to defend his success in the sprint races last year and to add the endurance title to that. But his plans could be scuppered by a new team in the starting field – I.S.R. Racing with Filip Salaquarda as a driver. The Czech team, which has been crowned with international success, is returning to the motorsport scene and has chosen the ESET Cup as the venue for its comeback. Salaquarda will be driving an Audi R8 LMS GT3 and is one of the candidates for the championship.
Alongside the pair, GT3 stalwart Gregor Zsigo will be in his BMW M4 GT3 of the Racing Trevor team. The Slovakian racer is once again planning to compete in the sprint and endurance races, in which he will be racing alone this time. Other GT3 drivers include the well-known Piotr Wira in his Mercedes AMG and Petr Kačírek in his Audi R8, who will race in the sprints and hand over the car to Daniel Skalický for the endurance races.
In the GTC category, we can expect interesting duels between the Lamborghini Super Tropheo cars, which will be represented by the Mičánek Motorsport and GT2 Motorsport teams. The Mičánek Motorsport team from Brno has new driver line-up for this season: Jáchym Galáš and Matěj Pavlíček. Both are entered for sprints. Last year’s GTC champion Dennis Waszek will have a difficult task to defend his title. For now, Petr Brecka will drive the only Porsche 911 GTC in the starting field at Oschersleben. From the Hungaroring, however, the GTC field is to be extended by a Porsche in the colours of the Racing Trevor team.
In the GT4 category, Bastian Hein from the RS24 Racing Team and last year’s champion with formula 4 Zéno Kovács and Antal Zsigo, both from the Racing Trevor team, will face each other. The trio of GT4 category will drive BMW M4 GT4s.
In the GTX category, the KTM X-Bow GTX cars of the RTR Racing and Janík Motorsport teams are expected to duel. Petr Lisa will drive for RTR Racing, while the team boss Václav Janík will of course represent Janík Motorsport.
The starting field will also include Antonín Herbeck’s Pagani Zonda or the Ligier LMP3 prototype with Miro Konopka.
Almost the same starting field as in the sprints will be in the endurance. Although the Audi RS3 LMS TCR of the Aditis team will be an interesting addition. Team boss Radim Adámek and last year’s TCR Eastern Europe champion Bartosz Groszek will take turns behind the wheel.
