GT2 Motorsport has bounced back from a disappointing start at Oschersleben and has extracted the most out of the second round of the ESET Cup at Hungaroring. Libor Milota with his Mercedes AMG GT3 never missed a podium and Dennis Waszek was battling with newer Lamborghini Huracán cars.
Hungaroring was a redemption for Milota’s complicated start of the season. While he finished third in the first sprint behind experienced Filip Salaquarda and junior driver Neil Verhagen in the BMW, he improved in endurance and the second sprint, securing second places.
“The mood is fantastic. We were getting faster the whole weekend. I am excited; I think we squeezed the maximum possible,” said Milota.
In the ESET Cup standings, Milota is tied for third place with Piotr Wira in the sprint and shares second place with him in endurance.
Milota’s teammate, Waszek, was also leaving Hungary in an upbeat mood. In the first GTC sprint, he finished second with his older Lamborghini Huracán, and on Sunday, he finished third, having a great race with the newer generation of these cars driven by Jáchym Galáš and Matěj Pavlíček. Waszek even beat Pavlíček in the first sprint.
“My feeling is much better than after Oschersleben. In the first race, I beat Pavlíček, and in the second, I kept him behind for a long time. Then my tires started to wear out, and he passed me. It seems that second-generation cars handle tire management better,” evaluated Waszek, who is currently in third place behind Galáš and Pavlíček in the overall standings.
