Experienced driver Tomáš Pekař is pursuing another Clio Cup title this year and currently dominates the standings with his orange fifth-generation Renault. Even more dominant behind the wheel of a Clio IV is Martin Kadlečík, who has not faltered once in the Trophy category.
Tomáš Pekař has turned his four starts into three victories and holds first place in the standings with 98 points, ahead of newcomer Nik Štefančič, who has finished second twice and third twice. Last year’s Twingo Cup champion trails Pekař by 30 points. Pekař’s teammate Szabolcs Lantos is currently third with 51 points.
In the Clio IV Trophy category, Martin Kadlečík remains undefeated. Like Štefančič, Kadlečík moved up from Twingo Cup to the faster Clio Cup, but he has bet on the older generation of the French car and has so far outpaced his competitors. Kadlečík has collected 82 points, 33 points more than second-placed Michael Hulm. Adam Konopka is third with 37 points, and Slovakia Ring will be his home race.
Fifteen cars are entered for the Slovakia Ring race. There are nine fifth-generation Clios, including Pekař and Lantos, who will be joined by their team mate Henrik Seibel from Carpek Racing. Other participants include Štefančič, Miha Primožič, Thomas Fischer, Dejan Robida, Petra Milodarović, and local racer Ondřej Fekete.
There are a total of six fourth-generation Clios in the Trophy category. In addition to Kadlečík, Hulm, and Konopka, Igor Tomljanović, Jiří Zbožínek, and Richard Meixner will also be racing in Slovakia.
