German racer Michael Hulm is enjoying the race weekends of the Clio Cup. With the older generation Clio IV, he holds the second position in the overall standings, but he is still waiting for his first victory this year.
A blue racing Clio, the Steibel Motorsport sticker, Michael Hulm behind the wheel, and later with a trophy for second or third place in hand. That’s the picture of this season, which Hulm evaluates very positively. “I think it’s been a successful season. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to beat the very fast Martin Kadlečík yet, but I’m satisfied with my second position in the driver’s standings,” Hulm assessed his performance during the race weekend in Most.
He knows the Autodrom Most very well. It’s close to Germany, and he comes here to test at least once a year. Now he finally raced here.
“I like Most, and the strategy for the race is simple: don’t crash and enjoy the race,” revealed Hulm, adding that this is actually his strategy for the whole year. He doesn’t have a recipe for defeating the dominant Kadlečík. That would require more testing and new tires. However, his financial possibilities have certain limits.
Out of the eight races this year, Hulm finished on the podium seven times, five of which were second places. Last year, he managed to win at the Red Bull Ring, but this year he is still waiting for his first victory. However, it’s not something that particularly weighs him down.
“I love racing, I want to enjoy every race and not destroy the car. That’s my goal, and I’m satisfied with it,” added Hulm, who had his first race at the age of ten in 2000. It was in go-karts, and later he moved on to slalom and hill climb races. When he tried circuit racing four years ago, he fell in love with it. “I grew fond of circuits. Above all, you spend a lot of time in the car, which can’t be said about slalom or hill climb races,” admitted Hulm, who hopes to switch to the newer generation Clio V for the next year.
