Krystian Korzeniowski dominates GT3 category and wins the first sprint

Polish driver Krystian Korzeniowski, representing the Olimp Racing team, steered his Ferrari 296 GT3 to victory in the first sprint of the ESET Cup at Slovakia Ring. In the overall standings, it was Miro Konopka who crossed the finish line first, driving a Ligier LMP3 prototype.

Konopka and Korzeniowski started the afternoon sprint from the front row, with local drivers Maťo Homola and Štefan Rosina lining up behind them. Korzeniowski made the best start, taking the overall lead. Several drivers managed to overtake Konopka initially, but the LMP3 prototype’s strength lies in its performance through the corners, allowing Konopka to gradually reclaim the overall lead, which he held onto until the finish.

Trailing behind him for most of the race was Korzeniowski, who marked Olimp Racing’s return to the ESET Cup with a win. The Polish driver is competing in the GT Open series this year, and the race at Slovakia Ring was used by Olimp Racing as a test session.

Miro Konopka secured victory in the D5 category, ahead of Alex Tlustý in a Praga R1. In the GT3 category, following Korzeniowski were Antal Zsigo in a BMW M4 GT3 and Martin Hudec in an Audi R8 LMS Ultra.

While the D5 and GT3 categories were more or less decided shortly after the start, the GTX category saw fierce competition. To the delight of the spectators, it was a battle between three local drivers. The trio was initially led by Štefan Rosina in a Lamborghini SuperTrofeo, closely followed by Maťo Homola in a KTM GTX, with Adam Konopka watching their duel from third in his Lamborghini Huracán. Homola eventually overtook Rosina, and Konopka followed suit a few laps later. The top positions in the GTX category were thus entirely occupied by local drivers.

In the GTC category, Dennis Waszek took victory with a repaired Lamborghini SuperTrofeo after the incident in Most. Petr Brecka won in the GTC1 category, although his victory was far from certain until the final lap. His fuel was running low, and Hubert Darmetko closed in, finishing just 0.098 seconds behind Brecka at the line. Franz Lahmer came in third in the GTC1 category.

Rudolf Beňo won the GT4 category, driving a BMW M4 GT4.
