Who would have thought that a rookie could win all the races so far and lead the Clio Cup championship? Michal Makeš from Mičánek Motorsport definitely did not expect that, but he has been using his great talent and now he is still waiting to find a true competitor in the ESET TWC.
Just a year ago, Makeš was still racing in karts and this year marks his first season with racing cars. He managed to win on his debut at Hungaroring and then he continued to dominate also the second round at Red Bull Ring.
“I definitely didn’t expect four wins. To be honest, I didn’t even think that I might be winning races at all or leading a championship,” said Makeš who also admitted that he has felt comfortable with the car since pre-season testing.
“Our team is helping me a lot, especially with the data analysis. I’m heading into the rest of the season with the same mindset as before. I’ll be learning upcoming tracks on team’s simulator and do my best. I can’t say yet which tracks are going to suit me, they are all new to me, but I’m confident and I believe I can succeed again,” added the Clio Cup championship leader.
Makeš has managed to win in every race so far, but there might be a strong competitor coming up – Jáchym Galáš. He finished 2nd in every race at Red Bull Ring and both drivers enjoyed a fantastic battle on the track. It is fair to assume that there will be another fight between Makeš and Galáš for the win. And Matthias Lodi cannot be ruled out yet as well, last year’s Twingo Cup champion who switched to Renault Clio cars this year.
In Clio Cup III it is even between Sebastian Kolakowski and Denis Wolf so far. While Kolakowski won both races at Hungaroring, it was Wolf who took the glory in Austria. However, in the current standings, it is looking better for Kolakowski who leads by six points.
