Tomáš Erdélyi from Šenkýř Motorsport is known for racing with BMW cars. Last year he raced with BMW M3 E92 GTR, but for 2018 season he has decided for a new challenge – a popular GT3 category.
“I wanted to try GT3s and there was one BMW Z4 available, so we made a deal with Robert Šenkýř and went for it. In the first races I just wanted to get used to the car, but it’s very similar to E92 and most importantly it’s always perfectly prepared, so it’s very enjoyable,” said Erdélyi.
He is racing with BMW Z4 GT3 which is classified in the GT3 Trophy category of 2018 ESET MMSR season.
“It’s great that older cars are classified at least in the Trophy category. It motivates drivers to race with the cars that wouldn’t stand a chance against modern GT3s. Also, it’s a great advantage that we have the best mentors in the team like Jaroslav Janiš, Robert Šenkýř and Richard Gonda,“ added Erdélyi, who is having a lot of success in both, sprints and endurance races.
Erdélyi managed to win both endurance races and he is currently first in the standings with the maximum amount of points. In sprints, he won the last three races and he is closing the gap on a championship leader Lubomír Jakubík.
“You never know what is going to happen in Motorsport, so I don’t try to predict anything. On the other hand, I know that we will fight until the end and Lubomír surely will too. I think we all are really enjoying this season, also in terms of fair play. And that’s how it’s supposed to be,” said the Slovakian driver.
