The first Sunday race at the Grobnik circuit belonged to the cup series Cruze Cup and Twingo Cup. Like on Saturday the audience could watch attractive duels and final victories of David Wassermann and Mark Coze.
Wolfgang Kriegl could not wait for the signal to start and thus maybe deprived himself of the victory as the favourite. The role of the winner was faultlessly taken over by David Wassermann, who like the day before controlled the lead in the start-finish manner to score his second victory of the weekend.
After the stop-and-go penalisation Kriegl dropped to the third rank but in the next couple of minutes he managed to catch up with the second ranking Christoph Pfluegler and cross the finish line under the chessboard flags on the second rank.
Twingo Cup was as usual a festival of sharp duels and wrestles. The most exposed part of all cars was the front bumper which the pilots deformed in the numerous mutual contacts, many of them having to stop in the pits for a front tyre defect. The chances for a top rank were thus lost for example by the interim ranking leaders, the Kramer brothers.
After a couple of laps a four-member group formed in the lead, including Jaka Marinšek, Tomaž Trcek, Marko Coza and Matej Ivanuša. These pilots kept switching ranks and after the numerous duels the final battle for the victory was confined to Marko Coza and Jaku Marinšek. Both entered the final straight side by side. Marinšek seemed to be quicker but in the last metres Marko Coza sprinted his rival over and won his first race in the competition with the advantage of 0.029 s.
“This is my first victory in the Twingo Cup, and as I live near by, the more pleased I am with the victory. I have already gathered some experience with Twingo, but I still feel like a newcomer at its steering wheel. I am already looking forwards to the new races at Slovakia Ring,“ said Marko Coza.
