Dušan Kouřil jr. took his 2nd win of the season in the wet opening race of the TCR weekend at Brno. Milovan Vesnič finished 2nd and has become a new champion. Jáchym Galáš managed to cross the line in 3rd place after starting from the back.
While the Friday TCR programme went rather well for the championship leader Milovan Vesnič, it was a different story in the qualifying. As a rain arrived at the Masaryk circuit near Brno, it was Jáchym Galáš, who took the pole position in a wild qualifying session. The GT2 Motorsport driver managed to set the fastest lap and beat Dušan Kouřil jr. by one second. Petr Čížek finished in 3rd while Vesnič had to settle for only 5th place on the grid.
However, the story did not end there for Galáš, who lost the pole position afterwards. He was penalised as he went into the pits during the session to refuel the car, which is prohibited under the current rules. That put the fastest man on Saturday to the very back of the grid.
That put Kouřil into the 1st place on the grid and after winning the 2nd race at Slovakia Ring, suddenly he was facing an opportunity to grab another winner’s trophy. And the K2 Engine ACCR Czech Team driver used that opportunity perfectly. He put together a perfect and dominant performance and crossed the start-finish line in the 1st position.
“We didn’t choose a good setup, the car was very oversteer. But the conditions were the same for everyone. We managed to pull away a bit at the beginning and then stay ahead until the end,” said the race winner.
Kouřil finished almost 3 seconds ahead of Milovan Vesnič, who took the 2nd place. The Serbian driver started in 4th position, but he made his way through and took a podium. But he was maybe even happier than the race winner because it was more than enough for him to be crowned as a new series champion. Nobody can challenge him anymore in the final race of the season that is planned for tomorrow.
Vesnič was joined on the podium by two Czech drivers. Jáchym Galáš fought well after starting from the last 9th position, showed a great recovery driver and crossed the line in the final podium spot.
Petr Čížek and Jakub Wyszomirski, who started from 2nd and 3rd places respectively, finished right behind the podium. The Polish driver had a bit more luck and took the 4th position in the end, while the FULLIN Race Academy driver was classified in 5th.
There was also one special entry for the Brno race weekend – Tamás Tenke joined Zengő Motorsport for the weekend. The Hungarian driver is a TCR Europe series regular and he even took part in the WTCR event at Hungaroring. This weekend, he is fully focused on his ESET TCR debut, but he did not enjoy much luck as he finished in the last 9th position, one lap behind the leader.
