The ESET MMSR championship continued last weekend with its 5th round of the season. Slovakia Ring, near Orechové Potôně, offered a full grid including TCR touring cars which saw an amazing battle between Milovan Vesnič and Václav Nimč jr. for the win.
Saturday’s opening Sprint race was dominated by a current championship leader Milovan Vesnič, who managed to set the fastest qualifying time in his SEAT Cupra. However, Nimč has proved his speed with Audi RS3 and lost to Vesnič only 0.145 seconds.
The race itself then went better for the Serbian driver, though he had to watch the Czech Audi in his mirrors very carefully. In the later stages of the race, they were joined by a home Slovak driver Martin Ryba.
“I’m very happy about the result, the second place is beautiful. Finally, I had a really nice battle with Vesnič and we had the same pace. Unfortunately, I struggled with the tyres near the end, so I also battled with Martin Ryba, which is very nice too and it was very very close,” said Nimč jr.
On Sunday it was a very different scenario. Vesnič took another pole for the second Sprint race, but Nimč had a better day and managed to get in the lead. Vesnič had to watch his competitor’s rear wing of his Audi RS5 for the whole race and had to settle for second, while Nimč took his second win of the season. Third place took Jakub Wyszomirski with Honda Civic.
Obviously, TCR cars did not miss the Endurance racing as well. A two-hour-long race at Slovakia Ring was a big challenge, but in the end, Csaba Toth and Gábor Kismarty-Lechner won the race with SEAT Cupra.
