The ESET Cup series continues this upcoming weekend with the second event of the season. A large field of competitors will head to Austria’s Red Bull Ring, where they will once again battle for victories and championship points.
Adam Konopka with Lamborghini Huracan from the ARC Bratislava team is in a great position to take the lead in the GT3 category standings. As a winner of one sprint race at the Balaton Park circuit, he currently shares the top spot in the table with Martin Kaczmarski. However, Kaczmarski will not be racing at the Red Bull Ring, while Adam’s father, Miro Konopka, will be driving a Ligier LMP3 prototype. The GT3 category will also feature the Duck Racing team with Martin Hudec and the Racing Trevor team with Gregor Zsig.
In the GTC category, Lamborghini Super Trofeo cars from GT2 Motorsport and Mičánek Motorsport will compete against each other. Dennis Waszek will represent GT2 Motorsport, and Libor Dvořáček will drive for Mičánek Motorsport. A large group of Porsche 911s will compete in the GTC1 group, with teams like PTT Racing (Hubert Darmetko), GT Sports Technology (Andrew Kunitsa, Petr Brecka), Kogelbauer Motorsport (Franz Lahmer, Bob Bau), and Šenkýř Motorsport (Radek Kolařík).
In the GT4 category, we can look forward to a showdown among German brands BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche. Rudolf Beňo and Antal Zsigo will represent BMW with their BMW M4 GT4. Andrej Makarović will race a Mercedes AMG GT4, while his teammate from LEMA Racing, Jaka Štuflek, will drive a Porsche Cayman GT4.
The GTX category features a diverse lineup with Lamborghini Huracan (Christian Wimberger, Alexander Ober), KTM GTX (Petr Koukola), and Porsche 911 (Alexandru Pitigoi) and Lotus Exige (Gábor Tim). The starting field will be rounded out by cars from the P9 series.
A similar lineup will compete in Saturday’s endurance race. Jakub Knoll will again drive a Lamborghini for the Mičánek Motorsport team. The reigning TCR Eastern Europe champion, Maťo Homola, will share the wheel of a KTM GTX with Viktor Mráz. Szabolcs Lantos and Mihajlo Mladenović will race a Mercedes AMG GT4.
The race weekend at the Red Bull Ring starts with practice sessions and qualifying on Friday. Saturday will feature a sprint race in the afternoon and an endurance race in the evening. On Sunday, the second sprint race will take place.
