The 2014 ESET MMSR championship introduced a brand-new Tourenwagen Cup (TWC) category for touring cars. TWC was open only for Cup cars like Renault Clio, Mitsubishi Colt, Chevrolet Cruze or older models coming from former series like Škoda Octavia Cup.
The Tourenwagen Cup shared the basic idea of ESET MMSR to offer a competitive and high-quality racing to Central Europe while keeping its costs low. To make it even better, drivers could compete in three additional cups – juniors, gentleman and a nations cup.
Also, ESET MMSR and REMUS Pokal agreed on even closer cooperation ahead of 2014 season. REMUS Formula Pokal series is an Austrian racing series led by a very experienced Franz Wöss.
The series continued to work closely with two popular Czech TV stations Nova Sport and Sport 5. At the beginning of May, ESET MMSR also took part in a special promo event in the streets of Budapest to raise awareness about motorsport.
Visitors to the Hungarian capital city had a rare chance to see some amazing racing cars, including a Formula 1 car. ESET MMSR was represented by BMW Alpina B6 GT3 and Ferrari 458 Challenge of Racing Trevor and RPD Racing respectively.
The 2014 ESET MMSR calendar had been expanded to seven events, adding Salzburgring in Austria. However, that did not stop Miro Konôpka from winning another championship. Once again, he used Porsche and Saleen during the season. He finished the season with six wins in total in sprints and endurance races.
“I think ESET MMSR did a good job in expanding the starting grid. It was noticeable and especially in D4-2000 class. We also had more cars also in our big D4 class and in single-seaters as well. The biggest thanks go to Trevor Racing and Josef Křenek, who did most of the hard work to help ESET MMSR series,” said now the two-time champion Miro Konôpka.
ESET Small Sprint category saw another dominance of Petr Mandelík’s silver-green Lotus car. Mandelík worked with KT Motorsport team once again. The biggest TWC category was Renault Clio Cup with 21 entrants. However, none of them had managed to stop Maciej Szkudlarek from winning his first championship in a stunning way. Martin Fischer won a Mitsubishi Colt Cup. And André Model took a title in Chevrolet Cruze Cup.
Josef Záruba won in a very competitive ESET L21 Formula Renault 2.0 category, while a German driver Florian Schnitzenbaumer dominated in Formula 3 cars. The last category of L21 Formula 1.0 saw Tomáš Chabr winning the title.
