The first weekend race of Clio Cup at Slovakia Ring had a very dramatic beginning. The best lap time in the time practice was achieved by the winner of all previous races Michal Makeš, followed by his biggest rivals Jáchym Galáš and Petr Majer. A tight battle among these three began right from the first lap of the race.
Immediately after start Jáchym Galáš took the lead, in fact already at the long straight section after start. On the other hand, the winner of the time practice, Michal Makeš, hesitated and was overtaken even by Petr Majer after a couple of hundred meters. This however was not the end of Makeš´s trouble.
“The beginning of the race was not very good for me. I lost two ranks and then I collided with Mattias Lodi due to understeering,“ said Makeš, who could take a rest for a couple of laps after that. The reason was the safety car joining the field due to a mass accident, including for example Petr Majer or the domestic veteran Julo Konček.
After restart the leading Galáš built an advantage which he kept until the finish to win his first race after the preceding bad luck.
“This is my first victory and I am very happy. The start was very tight, with a collision, and after restart I only needed to build an advantage thanks to which I peacefully arrived in the finish to score my first victory,“ explained the happy Galáš.
The second rank after Galáš belonged to Zoran Poglajen, who was disqualified by the circuit commissioners after the race and let the second rank to Michal Makeš. The third rank was occupied by the Slovenian pilot Miha Promozic.
The Clio Cup III class was won by Sebastian Kolakowski and the triumph in the D4-1600 category belonged to Dušan Kouřil.
