I’m really proud of the GT3 title, says Antal Zsigo

Antal Zsigo from Racing Trevor team confirmed his status as the favourite to win the ESET Cup title in the GT3 category at the Slovakia Ring. With a second-place finish and a victory, he secured the championship for the season even before the final event.

After winning the GT4 sprint category title in 2023, Zsigo moved to a more powerful and faster car. Although he started this season with a BMW M4 GT4, he switched to the quicker BMW M4 GT3 from the second race onwards, claiming his first victory at Red Bull Ring.

He continued his winning streak in the next two events. Despite an accident in the first corner at Most, after which he had to race with an older BMW M6, he left nothing to chance in the recent race in front of his home crowd at the Slovakia Ring, securing the title. He began the weekend at the Slovakia Ring with a second-place finish in Saturday’s sprint, followed by a victory on Sunday.

“The race weekend went well, although the heat caused some issues with the tyres. However, we had a great car setup that allowed us to conserve the tyres. Initially, I wasn’t happy with my pace and was a bit slower than in the June races, but then I managed to pick up the speed,” says Antal Zsigo.

“In the endurance race, I watched my teammate Gregor battle with Miro Konopka. I was two to three seconds faster than them and waited for my opportunity. Unfortunately, I had an incident with Konopka, which I believe was just a racing incident,” Zsigo explains about the accident in the endurance race, which he did not finish. However, this did not change the fact that his Sunday sprint victory secured the GT3 title.

“I want to be a racing driver for as long as possible. I aim to compete in even more challenging events, so I’m preparing for the October races in Valencia and will also participate in the 24-hour race in Barcelona. I’m pushing my limits to the next level and believe that next year I will prove that I truly deserved the title. This title means a lot to me. After the GT4 season, I wanted to take the next step, and although some drivers told me I still had time, I moved to GT3 and became the champion in my first season, which I’m really proud of,” reflects Zsigo on his success this year and reveals his future ambitions.
