Daniel Skalický won Saturday’s GT Endurance race at Brno. The Czech driver also dominated in the GT3 class. In the GT4 class, it was Tomáš Miniberger and Sergej Pavlovec who took the glory, while Tomáš Konvička celebrated a victory in the D5 category. And finally, Tomáš Pekař and Richard Meixner were victorious in the Clio Cup category.
As always in this series, Saturday evenings are for traditional endurance races and that was also the case at Automotodrom Brno on the first weekend of September.
It was a chance for Daniel Skalický. While in the afternoon’s GT Sprint race, the Czech driver lost out just very closely to Gregor Zsigo, Skalický and the Duck Racing team made sure to give it everything in the one-hour endurance race. After starting from pole position, he put together a dominant performance and took the overall victory in the GT category. He also won in the GT3 class, where he has increased his championship lead.
Today’s GT Sprint race winner Gregor Zsigo had to settle for only 2nd place in the GT3 class. However, the Slovak driver did not race on his own this time, as he shared his BMW M6 GT3 car with Štefan Rosina.
In the GT4 class, Tomáš Miniberger and Sergej Pavlovec won the race in the KTM X-Bow GT4 of RTR Projects ahead of Ferenc Ficza and Lubomír Jakubík from Trevor Racing. The 3rd place went to a married couple, who raced together for the very first time in our championship – Filip and Gabriela Sajler. They also raced for the RTR Projects team.
But there were also some not so happy stories. For example, Miro Konopka. The ARC Bratislava driver was dominating in the D5 category. Already in the afternoon, he took a victory in the Sprint race, and now it all looked promising in the Endurance race as well. However, by the end of the race, Konopka had to retire for technical issues and it even brought out the Safety Car.
After Konopka’s retirement, Tomáš Konvička took the lead and the JV Sport Racing driver knew exactly what to do. He did not let anybody take this opportunity away from him and he crossed the finish line in the 1st place in his category.
On the other hand, the Renault Clio Cup category offered a very exciting battle for the win between two cars and four drivers – Tomáš Pekař and Richard Meixner from Carpek Racing and Buggyra Zero Mileage Racing team drivers Yasmeen Koloc and the only Czech Formula 1 driver Tomáš Enge.
It was Pekař and Enge who started the race, and both drivers fought hard throughout the whole first stint. They even switched positions several times and, in the end, it was Pekař who headed into the pits from the lead.
However, after Richard Meixner took the wheel of the Carpek Racing car and Yasmeen Koloc got behind the wheel of the Buggyra car, things started to change. The Czech driver soon pulled away from Koloc and the Carpek Racing team took the 2nd win of the day. Enge and Koloc had to settle for only the 2nd place.
