A junior driver Jáchym Galáš raced with Volkswagen Golf TCR at Hungaroring last weekend where he competed against the best touring cars drivers in Europe.
Hungaroring hosted the opening rounds of TCR Europe and TCR Eastern Europe powered by ESET. Jáchym Galáš was obviously present with GT2 Motorsport team. This young driver, who just last year made a switch from karts to proper race cars, showed his potential in a huge race featuring 37 entries.
Both series raced together divided into separate classes. In the ESET TCR class, Galáš took the 4th place in qualifying, which meant the 31st place overall. However, if it was not for traffic and the lack of practice running, Galáš could have been even faster.
But it did not take long before he got to prove his talent. In the first race, he quickly moved to the 3rd place in his class and fought with Milovan Vesnič for the 2nd place. Serbian driver managed to defend his position in the end, but Galáš was still delighted with his result. He finished 21st in the overall standings.
„The best thing about all this is that I’ve managed to move up by 10 positions in overall standings. It’s a great result and I’d like to thank everybody in the team,” said Galáš after the first race.
Unfortunately, the second race did not go so well. He had a slow start which resulted in being hit from behind and forced straight into the pit wall.
Yet, Jáchym Galáš‘ performance at Hungaroring was very positive. If it was not for that crash in the second race, he had a pace to attack podium positions once again. His next opportunity will be a weekend 18 – 19 May at Red Bull Ring, which hosts the next round of the TCR Eastern Europe powered by ESET.
